BLINA

Speaking information system for the visually impaired and blind

The FABEMA® information and navigation systems for the visually impaired and blind

"Our systems make possible real barrier-free accessibility on construction sites and in the everyday routine."
Barrier-free accessibility is the central requirement for an inclusive society. The task is to create a safe, restriction free environment for people with blindness or visual impairment.

As a specialist for construction-site traffic control systems, we have designed audio-tactile traffic control systems as part of our complete traffic control solutions thus insuring safe navigation and barrier-free accessibility for blind and visually impaired people. Our information and navigation systems for the visually impaired and blind are equal to the complex mobility requirements of today and tomorrow and are suitable as supplementary solutions to the guide cane.

What makes FABEMA® AUTA and FABEMA® BLINA special?

FABEMA® BLINA is not just an audio information pillar! It can be used in many different ways, e.g. in inner cities, train stations, museums, airports or other facilities where navigation is necessary. With the fully programmable voice output the AUTA can communicate in any language and without phrasing pre-sets. FABEMA® AUTA functions as an additional audio-tactile pedestrian signalling device and operates in coordination with our mobile traffic control systems.

FABEMA® BLINA:

"Providing information about the next stopping point, the distance to the shopping centre or about temporary road blocks."
FABEMA® BLINA is a mobile information and navigation system for the visually impaired and blind which acoustically guides visually impaired and blind people along a safe route to the next pedestrian crossing or the next amenity.

The “LOC.id” smartphone app or the “LOC.id” hand-held transmitter uses Bluetooth to search for applications, like BLINA, that respond when approached. As a user of this app approaches the BLINA system the volume of the location signal is increased and when close by then the previously configured free text is played back.

The configured program can provide information about the current location or how to navigate to a destination (e.g. bus stop, the hairdresser in the city centre, the shopping centre, the city-rail station, etc.).

The new standard of mobility.
On construction sites in particular, it is necessary to use technologies that provide information and acoustic guidance in order to reduce the risk of accidents for visually impaired and blind people. The loudspeaker volume for the orientation sound and voice output automatically adapts to ambient noise levels.

Thanks to this volume adaptation FABEMA® BLINA is not perceived as an excessive nuisance at night. The “LOC.id” app is programmed to work in the background after it has been started and is therefore not a drain on the battery and memory. To use it you don’t have to hold the smartphone in your hand or actively monitor it.

Manual operation for orientation is of course also possible: The request button with braille script guarantees function independent of the LOC.id app. FABEMA® BLINA is powered by batteries and can therefore be used and transported flexibly.

What does BLINA mean?

BLINA means BLInd information and NAvigationsystem, which acoustically navigates visually impaired and blind people through and around changing obstacles.

The voice output is completely programmable – for language, volume and speed of the voice.

What does AUTA mean?

AUTA means AUdioTActile equipment. A second (tactile) button located on the underside of the crossing request device allows the traffic control system to react to the visually impaired person by extending the allowed crossing time in addition to the standard crossing request.

The loudspeaker provides both the orientation tone and the crossing now allowed tone. A special feature: The audio tone volume from the loudspeaker is automatically adjusted according to ambient noise levels and therefore no longer perceived as a nuisance by nearby residents.

More than just a light-signalling system

We have the solution: AUTA’s audio-tactile technology guides you safely and without restrictions through road traffic.
  • Audio-tactile equipment for blind and visually impaired people.
  • 1 x acoustic signal generator with all connections for operation on all intelligent traffic lights of the FABEMA® SECURION control unit series systems. (Requires intelligent traffic lights with slave circuit boards ver. 22 or later)
  • The second button on the underside of the pedestrian crossing request device enables the control system to respond to the visually impaired or blind person and thus e.g. to provide an extended green pedestrian crossing cycle and to activate the orientation/crossing active tones.
  • The orientation tone and the green pedestrian crossing active tone are generated by a loudspeaker unit: FABEMA® AUTA adapts to the ambient noise level and is therefore no longer perceived as a nuisance by residents at night.
